Complexity reduction is a major lever for reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of information technology in an organization. In most cases, reducing complexity involves the standardisation of systems, applications and technologies across the organisation. The desired outcome is a less complex landscape that results in lower operational costs and better managed future capital outlays. Unfortunately, indiscriminate complexity reduction instead can destroy business value.
